DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Detectives from the Broward Sheriff's Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating a burglary that was reported Friday at a Bass Pro Shops in Dania Beach.
The incident was reported at the Bass Pro Shops at 220 Gulf Stream Way.
Deputies said four burglars cut through a fence in the back of the business late Thursday and then made their way inside the store, stealing more than a dozen high-powered rifles and shotguns.
Surveillance video shows them smashing display cases and getting away with thousands of dollars' worth of weapons.
During the investigation, the BSO, Hallandale police and the ATF obtained a search warrant for an apartment near 800 W. Pembroke Road in Hallandale Beach, where authorities said they found 16 of the stolen weapons.
BSO Sgt. Ben Anderson said the find is extremely important for this case.
"These are high-powered shotguns that are used for hunting and hunting rifles, and they can cause a lot of damage," Anderson said. "They can go through walls and windows and whatnot, so it was imperative that we got working on this as soon as possible and get these guns off the street."
Detectives believe that there could still be at least one or two stolen guns from the Bass Pro Shops still out on the street.
No arrests have been made.
"We are assisting local law enforcement on this ongoing investigation and (are) constantly evaluating our security procedures," a Bass Pro Shops spokesman said in an emailed statement. "As a result, incidents of this nature are extremely rare."
Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
