MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – More than a dozen people were arrested this week by Miami-Dade police during an operation to crackdown on the heroin epidemic.
Most of the suspects have now gone before a judge, including a 76-year-old man who faced a Miami-Dade County judge Friday.
He is among 17 others charged in a sweeping heroin trafficking bust.
By Friday morning, most had their first court appearances. All are accused of possessing narcotics with the intent to sell.
A three-home bust Thursday was the culmination of months of investigating, Miami-Dade police said.
During the bust, police confiscated what they believe to be narcotics, which still need chemical testing, and two weapons.
The chemicals involved include synthetic drugs like fentanyl and carfentanil, and animal tranquilizers, which police said can be deadly.
