Pembroke Pines man arrested more than a year after crash that killed wife, 2 kids

Trevor Carter-Remy, 27, accused of driving drunk, causing 3 deaths, 5 injuries

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A Pembroke Pines man was arrested Tuesday, more than a year after a fatal crash that left his wife dead and two of her children, a 5-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy.

According to an arrest warrant, Trevor Nicholas Carter-Remy, 27, was driving a white 2001 Buick Lesabre the night of April 24, 2016, when he lost control of the car on Interstate 75, just south of Sheridan Street.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the vehicle flipped over multiple times and six out of the eight occupants inside the car were ejected.

Carter-Remy's wife, Tiffany Maureen Turnbull, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene and two of her six children were pronounced dead at Memorial Regional Hospital, authorities said.

Troopers said the woman's 6-year-old daughter spoke to an investigator at the hospital and said that her mother was fighting with Carter-Remy shortly before the crash.

Authorities said another child inside the car said they were going home from the beach when the crash occurred.

A witness told authorities that she saw the Buick speeding on I-75 when it suddenly made a left turn onto the median and overturned multiple times.

Authorities said no one was wearing seat belts.

Carter-Remy's blood-alcohol level was 0.14 percent hours after the crash, the arrest warrant stated.

Authorities said Carter-Remy's mother refused to allow detectives to speak with her son at the hospital without an attorney present, so no statement was taken from him after the crash.

Carter-Remy was arrested this week on multiple counts of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, DUI causing injury and reckless injury.

He appeared in court Thursday, where he was ordered held in lieu of a $1,110,000 bond.

Carter-Remy's defense attorney claims that alcohol wasn't a factor in the crash and that Carter-Remy's wife was hitting him while he was driving and might have grabbed the wheel just before the crash.
