'Office creeper' takes wallets from unattended purses at UM

Police believe same person committed both crimes

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – There have been two robberies reported to Coral Gables police over the past week that authorities believe involve the same thief, who has been dubbed an "office creeper."

The first incident took place at about 3:30 p.m. July 19 in the 1300 block of Standford Drive.

The thief entered the office area unlawfully, police said, and removed a wallet from an unattended purse that was in an area that isn’t open to the public.

The thief then fled on foot toward the Metrorail.

 At 12:30 p.m. July 21 the thief struck again, police said, this time in the Gables One Tower in the 1300 block of South Dixie Highway.

While in the building the thief removed a wallet from a purse, which was placed in an area that is not open to the public, police said.

The thief then fled on foot to an awaiting car described as a white four-door 2008 Nissan Altima, with dark-tinted windows, which was parked in a handicap spot at Gables One Tower.

The  thief  was described as a man between 30 - 40 years old, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall and having a medium build.

He was last seen wearing black pants, a black polo shirt, University of Miami white lab coat and gold sneakers.
