MIAMI – A therapist at Jackson Memorial Hospital was arrested Tuesday for attempting to look up child pornography on a work computer in December 2015, authorities said.

According to an arrest report, Jackson Health Systems security personnel approached Thomas Mahon, 61, after they discovered that someone had used a hospital computer to attempt to look at child pornography on at least two days in December 2015, beginning on Dec. 22, 2015.

Hospital security staff told police that Mahon claimed that he didn't remember working on Dec. 22, 2015, but surveillance video shows that he had entered the same room where the computer was located on that day.

Police said surveillance video also confirms that Mahon was working on Dec. 31, 2015, when someone again tried to look up child porn on the computer.

Police said Mahon forgot to log out of his JHS account each time he tried to look up the explicit images. They said that he told security staff that he did not view child pornography on the computer and did not give anyone permission to use his employee login.

Security personnel told detectives that Mahon was unable to view the illegal pornography because of the hospital's security software.

In April 2016, Detectives obtained the files they said Mahon tried to view, which they said depicted naked girls with their legs spread.

Mahon was arrested Tuesday at his home on a charge of attempting to view sexual performance by a child.
