“We are currently conducting unplanned maintenance onboard Icon of the Seas,” the email notification announced. “While our crew is working hard to address this as quickly as possible, there is still some work that needs to be done over a few days while the ship is docked. As a result, we’ll be cancelling our upcoming September 28 2024, sailing.”

The company is offering guests a 100% refund for their cruise fare as well as any meal and drink packages.

Guests who have booked flights through Royal Caribbean for the sailing will be automatically refunded. The cruise line will also provide up to $200 per guest for domestic US travel and $400 for international travel to cover any independent flight changes or cancellation fees.

The Icon of the Seas took its first trip out of PortMiami on Saturday, Jan. 27.

The company accepted the delivery of the Icon of the Seas in Turku, Finland on Nov. 27.

According to a news release by Royal Caribbean, the 20-deck high ship comes in at 250,800 tons, is bigger than Wonder of the Seas and holds up to 7,600 passengers. It is also 10 feet longer than Wonder of the Seas.

The ship is expected to remain in PortMiami to undergo repairs.
