U.S. and Russia expected to carry out prisoner swap set to include Paul Whelan and Evan Gershkovich

A prisoner swap between the United States and Russia is reportedly underway on Thursday and is expected to include former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and other Americans.

According to ABC News, Russia and the United States have agreed to swap prisoners in a multi-part deal.

Gershkovich, 32, was arrested by Russian authorities in March 2023 and accused of espionage.

Whelan was arrested in December 2018 and also accused of espionage.
