MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Four carjacking suspects were taken into custody Friday morning in Miami Beach.
Miami Beach police said the carjacking occurred in Miami Gardens.
Police said the stolen car was spotted in Miami Beach, but the suspects fled from officers before bailing out on the Venetian Causeway.
"A vehicle pursuit ensues. The vehicle actually rams one of our Miami Beach officers. It then rolls over and comes to its final resting spot as it's leaving Miami Beach into the city of Miami on the Venetian Causeway," Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said.
The teenage suspects were soon apprehended.
Authorities said the officer that was inside the car that was struck was not injured.
"I live here for 10 years and never see something like this," Biscayne Island resident Maria Saucedo said. "I'm in shock at this because I never see something like this, just in this street."
A stretch of the Venetian Causeway was closed between Biscayne Island and San Marco Island during the police investigation.
Just before police reopened the causeway, a flatbed truck towed away a damaged silver Nissan Rogue.
Rodriguez said two of the suspects are also accused of robbing a woman of her purse on Lincoln Road.
"We're enlisting the assistance of Miami Gardens police," he said. "We've already linked two of those occupants to that earlier Miami Beach robbery this morning. Detectives are seeing if they're connected to other crimes on Miami Beach, as well."
