Man dead after pickup truck slams into tree in Miramar

Police say driver lost control of truck before fatal crash

MIRAMAR, Fla. ā€“ A man was killed when a pickup truck crashed into a tree Tuesday morning near a Miramar townhouse complex.

Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues said the white pickup truck was traveling east on Pembroke Road when the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle, which left the road and slammed into a tree.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A resident told Local 10 News he heard the crash about 2 a.m. Scott Gentilesco said he and another neighbor were trying to talk to the driver, asking if he was OK, but there was no response.

"I don't want to see anybody die," Gentilesco said. "It's unfortunate."

Rues said speed may have been a factor in the crash.

Surveillance video obtained exclusively by Local 10 News shows the Ford Ranger traveling east on Pembroke Road moments before the impact.

Residents who live nearby said the stretch of Pembroke Road has a reputation.

"This street is really known for a lot of accidents," Gentilesco said.

In February, a police cruiser traveling east on Pembroke Road collided with another car at Oleander Drive.

Last month, another vehicle, also traveling east, drove over the median and continued east in the westbound lanes.

There was also a March 29 hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle that struck the front-end of a pickup truck and never stopped.

Greg Plummber, who also lives nearby, has given Pembroke Road another name -- "Death Road."

Police blocked the eastbound lanes of Pembroke Road near Oleander Drive during Tuesday's fatal crash investigation.

The man hasn't been identified, pending notification of family members.
