Man shot to death as he sat in parked car in Miramar, police say

Woman in car not injured during Thursday night shooting

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A man was shot to death Thursday night as he sat in his parked car in Miramar, police said.

The fatal shooting occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. in the 7700 block of Grandview Boulevard, Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues said.

"It was a straight pop, pop, pop, pop," Adriana Gutierrez, who lives in the area, said.

"I heard a lot of gunshots. I jumped up and looked out of the window, called my sister, called the police," another neighbor, Barry Solomon, said.

Investigators could be seen collecting evidence at the crime scene Friday morning.

A woman who was also in the truck at the time wasn't injured, Rues said. But the truck was bullet-riddled and the home behind it was also struck.

"It was just a tragedy because all you hear is, 'No, God. No,'" Gutierrez said.

More than a dozen evidence markers covered the ground next to shell casings as crime scene technicians worked to find out what led up to the shooting.

Miramar police are now searching for the shooter or shooters, while residents said they're just fortunate they weren't hit by the barrage of bullets fired just doors down from where they were sleeping.

"I stayed in the house. I wasn't going to come out," Gutierrez said.

Neighbors said the victim was a young man who leaves behind a wife and child.

Police said they are speaking with neighbors to see whether anyone saw the shooter.

Those with information about the shooting are asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
