Car crashes into homeowner's pool in Pompano Beach

Homeowner rescues driver, passenger after crash

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A driver lost control of his vehicle early Saturday, crashing his car through aĀ fence and landing in a swimming pool in Pompano Beach.

Witnesses said the driver was traveling west on Copans Road around 7:30 a.m. when the car jumped the median and barreled into a homeowner's backyard in the 600 block of Northeast 23rd Court.

The homeowner, who did not want to be identified, said he was half-asleep when he heard a loud noise coming from the yard.

"I got up and looked out the window and I saw a car bobbing up and down in my pool. I rushed out, put my shorts on and saw two people inside the car panicking. So I jumped in the pool," he said.

The homeowner said he pulled the driver and his female passenger from the car. The extent of their injuries was not clear, but the homeowner said both people were alert when paramedics arrived.

The homeowner said he has seen a number of accidents along Copans Road, many due to speeding.

ā€œIt was like a dream. Who would ever expect to see a car sitting in your pool?ā€ he said.
