Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of XXXTentacion

Dedrick Williams faces charges of first-degree murder, grand theft auto

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ A suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of South Florida rapper XXXTentacion.

The mother of XXXTentacion, whose real name is JahsehĀ Onfroy, announced Thursday morning thatĀ an arrest hadĀ been made.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright confirmed a short time later that DedrickĀ Williams was arrested in connection with the rapper's death.

Coleman-Wright said WilliamsĀ was taken into custody shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday in Pompano Beach.

Williams, 22, was in jail Thursday morning on multiple charges, includingĀ first-degree murder and grand theft auto.

XXXTentacionĀ was leaving RIVA Motorsports in his BMW when he was fatally shot Monday afternoon in Deerfield Beach.

Deputies said the gunman, who was wearing a red mask, and an accomplice fled in a black Dodge Journey. They said robbery may have been a motive.

"It's a fluid investigation, and we're hoping that we make further arrests as we progress," Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told Local 10 News.

The 20-year-old Plantation native was known as a rising star of the SoundCloud underground rap movement.

Williams is a tattoo artist, according to his Instagram page. He has a history of prior arrests in Broward County, includingĀ cocaine possession, grand theft autoĀ and aggravated assault with a firearm.

He appeared before a Broward County judge Thursday afternoon and was ordered to be held without bond.
