MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A driver was killed in a head-on collision on the Seven Mile Bridge early Thursday in the Florida Keys.
Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Kathleen M. McKinney said a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling south on the Seven Mile Bridge about 1:45 a.m. when, according to witnesses, it veered into the northbound lane and collided with a 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as Jarrod Branscum, 22, of Homosassa, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, identified as Emily Andrefsky, 33, of Little Torch Key, was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in Miami. She was listed in critical condition.
According to the FHP, charges against Andrefsky are pending.
The Seven Mile Bridge was closed for about 2.5 hours during the traffic homicide investigation.
