MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were injured in a shooting Friday morning near Cutler Bay, authorities said.
The shooting was reported at a complex in the area of 11000 SW 200th St.
Witnesses told Local 10 News reporter Layron Livingston that the gunman rode up to the complex on a bicycle, and claimed that he had been robbed Thursday night and was seeking revenge.
Witnesses said the gunman opened fire at people outside, striking a woman in the shoulder who was sitting in her car.
"He just started shooting," Shantrell Daniels-Whitfield's sister, Britney Daniels, said.
Daniels said one of the bullets went through the windshield of her sister's brown Buick.
She said Daniels-Whitfield's two young children were also in the car, but were not injured.
"My sister was like, 'Everybody get down, get down.' After the gunshots stopped, she was like, 'I'm hit,'" Daniels said.
Daniels said the gunman kept shooting from his bicycle until neighbors caught up with him in the parking lot.
"They were beating him up with the Heineken bottles, all types of sticks and stuff like that," Daniels said.
"They needed to catch him. Come on, we're talking about a car full of kids getting ready to go to school, and he's going to shoot it up?" Rachel Lovett said. "Really? He didn't care. He didn't care at all."
Police confirmed that a man was also shot in the hand. Witnesses said the man was shot while trying to stop the gunman.
Neighbors said the man who was the first to get his hands on the gunman was questioned by police and let go.
"I'm glad they held him until the police came. That's how I'm going to leave that," Lovett said.
Things got tense again when a woman showed up at the scene, claiming she was related to the accused gunman.
She, nor her questions, were well-received and she ultimately left.
The victims and the accused gunman were taken to Jackson South Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
