Miami detectives search for wheelchair user's killer

Woman dies after hit-and-run crash in Miami's Little Haiti

MIAMI – Miami detectives were searching Saturday for the driver of a dark four-door vehicle who is accused of kiling an 83-year-old wheelchair user in Miami's Little Haiti.

Traffic homicide detectives released surveillance video showing the last images of Magarett Ruiz before a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night. They believe the car suffered frontal damage when it collided with Ruiz's electric wheelchair.

Miami Fire Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Northeast Second Avenue and 62nd Street near the Little Haiti Soccer Park. They took Ruiz to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Detectives were asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
