Shark bites swimmer off Florida Keys

U.S. Coast Guard rescues injured woman

KEY WEST, Fla. – A small shark bit a 40-year-old woman Saturday off the Florida Keys.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the swimmer injured a foot in the shark attack just before 1 p.m. near Snipe Point.

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued the woman, taking her and her husband to the Key West station.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Felipe Lay said a helicopter took the woman to a hospital in Miami-Dade County.

A Coast Guard news release said the woman was in good condition.
