DAVIE, Fla. ā A 50-year-old homeless man was killed overnight in a hit-and-run crash in Davie, authorities said on Monday.
The crash was reported near State Road 7 and Griffin Road.
Police said a red sedan struck the victim, identified as Alfonso Ordonez, and continued north on State Road 7.
A witness said she saw the victim before the crash inside a nearby gas station and said that he appeared to be drunk.Ā
"He was a little intoxicated and his friend was holding him," Holly Wilson said. "He asked to use the bathroom andĀ when he came out he walked across the street, and I just saw him fall, and I heard a loud boom and a loud smack, and that was it."Ā
Wilson said she didn't see the vehicle strike Ordonez, but heard a loud noise and saw him fall to the ground.
"I was standing outside of the Shell (gas) station, and I was glancing over to the right, and I saw a man walking up to the curb," she said. "I just saw him fall and heard a loud smack on the ground, and I knew that he was gone, because he wasn't moving or getting up."
Wilson said the man's friend stood over him, screaming, but there was no response from the victim.
"I checked his pulse. I checked his artery, but the guy had died," another witness, Robbie Evans, said.Ā
Ordonez was pronounced dead at the scene.
