MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Four people were taken into custody Wednesday after a bailout in northwest Miami-Dade County.
Miami-Dade police Detective Daniel Ferrin said the police department's Northside District was dispatched at about 3:30 p.m. to a call from a man who was following his vehicle, a blue 2004 Honda Element, that had just been stolen and was spotted in the area of Northwest Seventh Avenue and Northwest 103rd Street.
Ferrin said four people were inside the vehicle.
Local 10 News spoke to the victim, who said that the SUV was stolen Tuesday from outside his job in North Miami.
Jorin Williams said he left his keys on the trunk while he was loading up his vehicle. He said he had a tablet and two phones in the SUV.
Williams said he used the phones' GPS to track his vehicle to the area of Northwest Second Avenue and Northwest 52nd Street. He said he saw two females and two males, who appeared to be minors, walk to his vehicle and drive away.
He followed the suspects until police took over.
"When they sped up, I sped up," Williams said.
Miami-Dade police patrol officers and followed the SUV, but the driver initially refused to stop, Ferrin said.
The car sped through a residential neighborhood, where the group bailed out of the moving vehicle near Northwest 93rd Street between Northwest 25th and 26th avenues.
All suspects were taken into custody after a brief search.
The suspects' ages and identities were not immediately released.
"I'm saddened that it was, I have to say, they're my own people that have stolen from me," Williams said. "If they would have asked me for something, I would have gave it to them."
No one was injured during the chase and takedown, Ferrin said.
Charges are pending against the suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
