2 dead, 1 rescued after boat capsizes in ocean off Dania Beach

Authorities investigate what caused boat to overturn

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Two people were killed and a third person was rescued Tuesday after a boat overturned in the Atlantic Ocean off Dania Beach.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Carol Lyn Parrish said authorities were notified about a capsized boat shortly after 2 p.m. 

She said two men were killed and another man was rescued. He was not injured.

The body of another person was floating in the water nearby.

Both bodies were recovered and taken to the U.S. Coast Guard station in Dania Beach.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Broward Sheriff's Office, Hollywood Fire Rescue and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue assisted with the rescue.

Authorities didn't say what caused the boat to overturn.

The victims' names haven't been released.

FWC officers interviewed the surviving victim after the incident to try to determine what happened and how it could have been avoided.
