PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Pembroke Lakes Mall's JCPenney store was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a fire broke out on the store's roof, authorities said.
The fire was reported shortly before 2 p.m.
Pembroke Pines police said only JCPenney employees and customers were evacuated from the mall. They were allowed back inside the store after the fire was extinguished shortly before 2 p.m.
Firefighters said an air conditioning handler unit caught fire on the roof. They said the flames were extinguished by workers before they arrived at the scene.
Authorities said the store was evacuated as a precaution as they secured power to the mall and made sure that there were no other issues.
No injuries were reported.
