MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police from different agencies swept the streets of Miami-Dade County on Friday to round up some of the community's most violent offenders.
Law enforcement officers met in the parking lot of a police substation early in the morning, arming themselves with firearms and ammunition.
They had a final meeting before hitting the road.
"We are looking for the people that are involved in violent crimes," Miami-Dade police Capt. Shawn Browne said.
Miami-Dade police led the countywide crackdown, which is known as Save Our Streets.
Miami-Dade police officers teamed up with federal agents and other local law enforcement officers this month for the operation.
The first takedown of the morning was at a home in Miami's Liberty City neighborhood.
Investigators believe a gunman who was involved in a recent shooting might have been hiding out inside the residence.
"All this (expletive) just for me. C'mon, y'all trippin," a woman, who was at the home, said.
The woman wasn't the person police were looking for, but she was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant.
A man was also arrested after police said they found marijuana, crack cocaine and MDMA in his possession.
Local 10 News' cameras were there as authorities drew their weapons, armed and ready to shoot if necessary.
Police said Friday afternoon that at least 13 criminals are now off the streets.
"We rely on the community to help us or with the information," Browne said. "We hope people don't stay silent because, at the end of the day, this is affecting their community."
