Several cars catch fire in Lauderdale Lakes

Fire appears to be mechanical

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – Authorities are investigating after several vehicles caught fire in Lauderdale Lakes.

The fires were reported about 1:30 a.m. Monday and spread between two SUVs and a car.

A fourth vehicle had heat damage but wasn't burned.

"The neighbor said they saw smoke coming out of the car, and this is where the car started to burn out," Philippe Kepler, whose Mercedes SUV was burned, said.

Marc Dorcenat's SUV was parked next to his neighbor's and was also burned.

"I tried to pull it back to see if I can save my car, but the fire was high," he said.

"Everything started to explode, and there was a loud sound and everybody started running around. So, it was very scary and intense," Millicent Butler, whose daughter's car was burned in the fire, said.

All three burned vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

The driver of one of the SUVs said he believes the fire was mechanical.

"We thank God that no one was in that car, (and) that no one was out here and got hurt, and we are alive," Butler said.

The fire remains under investigation.
