85-year-old man killed in northwest Miami-Dade

Carlton Fair killed in 1800 block of Northwest 74th Street

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – An 85-year-old man was killed Sunday in northwest Miami-Dade County, authorities said.

Miami-Dade police said Carlton Fair was shot in front of his home in the 1800 block of Northwest 74th Street.

Residents in the area said Fair, who they called "Cigar," was still very active in the neighborhood, despite his age.

"To me, he didn't bother nobody," Pearl Hunter said. "He'd come along on his little scooter, riding up and down."

"Who would want to do such a thing to an old man?" Lisa Monroe added.

Neighbors said Fair lived with his wife, who he took care of. A teddy bear with a heart was spotted Tuesday near the couple's front window, possibly a Valentine's Day gift.

Neighbors said the shooting is concerning and just hope that the culprit is captured by authorities.

"I pray to God your conscience eats you up (and you) have enough conscience to turn yourself in," Monroe said.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 305-471-2400. Anonymous tips can be made to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
