MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A construction worker died Friday after falling off scaffolding on the side of a South Beach condominium that is being renovated, police said.
Alvaro Navarro, 50, was killed in the accident that occurred about 9:15 a.m. at the Decoplage, 100 Lincoln Road.
Miami Beach police said the scaffolding was on the third floor when Navarro somehow fell.
Navarro was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, where he later died.
Work was halted while Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials investigate.
Yaniv Levi, president of Coast to Coast General Contractors, released a statement to Local 10 News.
"Coast to Coast is deeply saddened by the death of Alvaro Navarro, and we are trying to help the family through this tragic accident," Levi said. "We are working with state and federal investigators to understand why this accident happened. OSHA has told us we may resume work, but we need know what happened and why. Until we get those answers, we cannot comment because we simply don't have the facts."
