SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. – Two pedestrians were injured in a crash Friday near Sunset Place.
South Miami police said a chain-reaction crash involving three vehicles on U.S. Highway 1 caused the driver of one of the vehicles to lose control and slam into two men who were on a nearby sidewalk.
"I stepped out of the car and there were two (men) on the ground there," George Uche, who was driving the BMW, told Local 10 News.
One man was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The other man was taken to the hospital by ambulance in serious condition. Their identities haven't been released.
The drivers weren't injured, but they gave conflicting accounts of what happened.
A man who was driving the SUV said his tire blew out and he lost control.
"I don't know what he was doing," Uche said of the SUV driver. "I hope he wasn't texting. I hope they don't check his phone and see something that he shouldn't have been doing."
The crash remains under investigation.
