Surveillance video of fatal crash involving Porsche surfaces

Isaias Medina re-arrested last month for violating house arrest terms

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – The surveillance video shows a car speeding down a street before it crashes into a light pole.

The impact killed Daniela Benavides San Miguel, 18, and injured two others.

Police said the driver, Isaias Medina, 18, was reckless when he lost control of his family’s Porsche on New Year’s Day 2016.

In a video obtained by the Miami Herald, the car can be heard speeding along Harbor Drive in Key Biscayne.

According to the paper, Medina was re-arrested last month after he violated the terms of his house arrest.

"The bond that the state is asking is extremely reasonable based on the circumstance here. If anything, I personally, would have set a higher bond," Judge Mindy S. Glazer of the Miami-Dade Circuit Court said in February.

Police said Medina was going at least 60 mph when he tried to take a curve and lost control.

Tests show he was high on marijuana and prescription drugs at the time of the crash, but police never charged him with being under the influence.

"He has shown tremendous remorse. It’s been a very difficult time for the victim's family and I think it’s also been a difficult time for my client's family as well," David Kubilian, Medina’s attorney, said.
