Woman killed, 1 injured in Florida City shooting

Cousin riding in front passenger seat treated for gunshot wound

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – A woman was killed and another was injured Wednesday night in Florida City when a shooter opened fire on them.

Miami-Dade police said four women were in the car near 650 Southwest Seventh Terrace when they were ambushed.

Police said the driver, identified by relatives as Tabitha Jamison, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jamison's cousin, who sat next to Jamison in the front passenger seat, was wounded in the shooting. She was treated for her gunshot wound and asked that her name not be used, fearful that the gunman would return.

Local 10 News reporter Glenna Milberg spoke to Jamison's mother, who said that a man named Rudy shot her daughter because he was mad that someone called police on his baby's mother.

Josie Jamison said her daughter is survived by a 2-year-old daughter.

"I'm hurt, but my grand baby thinks that her mom is at work," she told Milberg. "I'm hurt. It hurts, but what can I do about it?"
