MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A woman from Florida City was arrested Thursday on a first-degree murder charge in the death of woman who was killed last weekend in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.
Miami-Dade police said Liz Corcho, 33, and Carlos Mojica, 27, were driving around a shopping center Saturday night looking for a victim to rob when they saw Vicki Feeley, 65, entering a store.
Detectives said the duo waited for Feeley to leave the store and then followed her home to the area of Southwest 112th Terrace and 128th Court, where they robbed her in her driveway.
Police said Mojica grabbed Feeley's purse, but she refused to let it go.
While struggling for the bag, Mojica dragged Feeley to his silver pickup truck, where he jumped into the passenger seat, police said.
Detectives said Corcho accelerated to flee the scene, dragging Feeley several feet.
Police said Feeley fell underneath the truck and Corcho ran over her.
Feeley was taken to a hospital, where she died.
Corcho was arrested Thursday in Homestead after bank employees notified officers that she was attempting to cash a check belonging to Feeley.
Detectives said Corcho confessed to her involvement in the robbery and killing. She faces charges of first-degree murder and uttering forged instruments.
Police said charges in Feeley's death are pending against Mojica, who was shot by officers Wednesday night at a trailer park in Florida City while they were searching for the silver pickup truck used in the killing.
They said Mojica rammed an officer's patrol car while driving in reverse when he was confronted by police.
According to an arrest report, he then drove forward toward two detective who had gotten out of their vehicles and given him loud verbal commands to stop his truck and get out. Police said they open fired at him when he ignored their commands, striking him multiple times.
Mojica's truck stopped after striking a chain-link fence. He was taken to Jackson South Community Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
Police said Mojica did not make any statements about the robbery and death of Feeley but said that he "had just been released from jail and was not going to return."
Mojica was last arrested Sept. 20 on a battery charge and had a stay away order against Corcho.
Mojica faces charges of aggravated assault on an officer, grand theft of a vehicle and resisting an officer.
