NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A thief shot his owner partner-in-crime Monday night while they robbed a man outside a home in North Miami Beach, authorities said.
A 28-year-old man who lives at the home said he felt that something wasn't right as he pulled up to his house and a strange car rolled up behind him.
"I felt something was wrong, or an eerie feeling," the man, who wished to remain anonymous, said. "The next thing you know, the passenger comes out, someone is telling me, 'Get down. Give me your valuables.' I give him my valuables, (then the) next thing you know, I hear a gunshot. I fall to the floor (and) I see (that) it's not me."
As the robbery victim ducked behind his red Mustang, a gunshot was fired by one of the two assailants, a sound that echoed throughout the neighborhood.
"Someone got hit, and I was looking at myself and I saw the gunman, or whoever, gripping for life, or looking like they were hurt," the man said. "Once I saw that it wasn't me, I tried to hide, but other than that, my instincts kicked in to run."
The man said he ran away and wasn't injured.
Police said one of the robbers drove his wounded accomplice to Jackson North Medical Center and then drove away.
The victim said he's worried, since at least one robber is still out there, but is thankful that he gets to live to see another day.
"I'm blessed," he said. "(It's) not luck. That's the grace of God."
The injured suspect, whose identity has not been released, is listed in critical condition at Aventura Hospital.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
