KinderCare van overturns in southwest Miami-Dade crash

Adult taken to hospital; 9 children in van not injured

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A KinderCare van carrying nine children overturned Thursday morning in a crash in southwest Miami-Dade County.

The crash occurred near Southwest 152nd Street and Southwest 117th Avenue, just east of Zoo Miami.

A view from Sky 10 showed the van resting on its side on a sidewalk. A red pickup truck was also involved in the crash.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said one adult was taken to Jackson South Community Hospital.

KinderCare told Local 10 News that the children, ages 5 to 10, were not injured in the crash,  but that the bus driver was taken to the hospital.

A photo taken at the scene shows a Miami-Dade Schools police officer holding an ice pack to a girl's head.

A school representative said Officer Rojas is assigned to Miami Southridge High School, but was in the area at the time and responded to the scene.

Another van was sent to pick up the children and take them to Gloria Floyd Elementary School.

A Miami-Dade County Public Schools representative said all of the children were wearing seat belts.

Local 10 News reporter Sanela Sabovic spoke to one parent, who picked up her young daughter from school. She said her daughter appeared to be fine.

It's unclear who was at fault in the crash.
