POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A 17-year-old boy is facing charges after trying to run over a deputy Monday with a stolen car in Pompano Beach, authorities said.
Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said a deputy shot Dalvin Williams, 17, when he tried to run over the deputy who was trying to get Williams to pull over.
The shooting was reported Monday morning in the 800 block of Hammondville Road.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Williams bailed out of the car after being shot in the shoulder area, but was quickly taken into custody.
Williams was taken to a hospital and was later booked into the Juvenile Assessment Center.
He faces charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and grand theft.
Williams appeared in court Tuesday, where a judge ordered that he remain at the JAC for 21 days. The state will determine during that time whether they wish to charge Williams as an adult.
The teen is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 20 for other charges stemming from last October when Williams was charged with fleeing and eluding police and failure to obey an order to stop while driving a stolen vehicle.
Monday's shooting was the second deputy-involved shooting in Pompano Beach in four days.
Deputies called to a domestic disturbance Friday night on Northwest 14th Street said they were forced to open fire on a man armed with a knife in the backyard of a home. Gregory Frazier, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene, and both deputies were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Israel said the shooting and all future deputy-involved shootings will be investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
