DAVIE, Fla. – A South Florida man has filed a lawsuit against his community's security and property management companies two years after his wife was killed in their home during a botched burglary.

Nan-Yao Su, who represents his wife's estate, is seeking damages in excess of $15,000, not including attorney's fees.

File: Complaint filed by husband of Jill Halliburton Su

According to Davie police, Jill Halliburton Su, 59, was found dead Sept. 8, 2014, in the bathtub of her home at the gated WestRidge community. Police said she died of multiple stab wounds.

Dayonte Resiles, now 21, of Lauderdale Lakes was arrested later that month on a charge of first-degree murder.

"(The) defendants failed to properly maintain and secure the fencing enclosure around the perimeter of the WestRidge community and allowed opportunity for unauthorized individuals to access the community unnoticed," the complaint said.

According to the complaint, there is only one entrance to drive into the community, and there is a guardhouse at the entrance with a security guard staffing the entrance 24 hours a day.

There are also multiple cameras positioned throughout the entrance to record vehicles entering and exiting the development.

"There was also easy access to the WestRidge community on the northeast corner where anyone could simply walk into the community without having to show identification, being worried about surveillance cameras or risking detection," the complaint said.

Nan-Yao Su is seeking a trial by jury and damages to cover the cost of his wife's funeral as well as payment for the mental pain and suffering that he and his children have gone through, and for "loss of support and services" from the date of his wife's death.

Resiles was re-arrested in late July after escaping July 15 from the Broward County courthouse.

He remains in jail without bond while he awaits trial.
