MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Surveillance video captured a couple of thieves using a U-Haul vehicle to steal pricey furniture and electronics from an apartment up for rent in northeast Miami-Dade earlier this month.
The incident took place at Azure Lake along Northeast 195th Street.
Police believe the man and woman, who are captured on video, gained access to the unit using a lockbox commonly used by realtors.
"They did it in 15 minutes, just picked it all up and left," Robert Johnson, who flew down with his mother from New Jersey after learning of the burglary, said. "It's not like they were running or anything. It's our couch, it's our TV, it's our stuff and we would like to know where it is."
The apartment, which was up for rent, was partially furnished and was being advertised online.
The ad includes photos of a sectional and a 52-inch TV.
The couple is seen on surveillance video walking out of the unit with the sectional in pieces along with accent tables and electronics. They then load the items, which are valued at more than $6,000, into a U-Haul vehicle.
The owners believe the thieves knew how to get into a combination lockbox that was on the door. Police noted the box was not damaged.
The box information is passed around to numerous realtors who show off the place to renters, according to Johnson's mother.
"They just opened the door with one of the locks that the realtors have and they took the couch out, took the TV out and put it all in the U-Haul and drove off," Johnson said.
The family is upset and hopes someone knows the two people caught on camera.
Miami-Dade police are looking into the possibility a realtor may be involved in the burglary.
