2 dead in crash on I-95 near Sample Road

I-95 lanes shut down for hours

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Two people died Friday morning after a crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach. 

According to Florida Highway Patrol investigators, Rakan Alnittki, 20, and Sultan Alotaibi, 20, were standing behind a vehicle that was disabled in the outside lane near Sample Road when they were struck. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. 

All southbound lanes were shut down from just after midnight until 4:30 a.m. as authorities investigated. 

This crash also caused another wreck shortly afterward. Police said a driver was approaching the scene in the area of Hillsboro Road where traffic had stacked up. The woman was checking her GPS and swerved to avoid the traffic when she rolled over, authorities said. 

Her condition wasn't known, but a Local 10 News crew saw her at the scene speaking with investigators just after 5 a.m.
