PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A Pembroke Pines woman was arrested Sunday after attacking her 82-year-old mother, authorities said.

According to an arrest report, officers were called to an apartment complex at 800 SW 131st Ave. in reference to a domestic dispute between a man and a woman. Police said Diana Smith, 53, had already left the apartment, but was found at a nearby shopping plaza.

Police said Smith told officers that she had been drinking during the day and was upset over a breakup with her boyfriend, who had been cheating on her, but she said they were now on good terms.

Officers left Smith alone in the apartment with her mother, but about 10 minutes later, authorities received another 911 call, reporting that another altercation broke out, this time between Smith and her mother.

According to the report, Smith threw kitchen items, milk, chicken, mayonnaise and barbecue sauce all over the living room floor.

Police said Smith's mother told her son to call police, so Smith approached her mother, who was sitting on the couch with oxygen tubes in her nose, got on top of her and told her mother to give her the phone.

While trying to grab the phone from her mother, Smith scratched the woman, causing three bloody lacerations to her right forearm, the report said.

Police said Smith denied touching her mother, but was found holding her mother's cellphone.

Police said the victim did not want to press charges against her daughter.

Smith was arrested on charges of second-degree felony assault on a person 65 years of age or older.
