HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A man was arrested Thursday in the armed robbery of a Kohl's department store in Homestead.

The incident was reported about 7:35 p.m. Tuesday at Kohl's in the 2400 block of Northeast 10th Court.

Police said Humberto Herrera, 41, approached the fine jewelry counter and told the associate that he was looking for a gift for his wife.

Herrera lifted his shirt and showed a silver firearm in his waistband, police said.

According to detectives, Herrera verbally threatened the associate and instructed the employee to fill a white plastic bag with jewelry.

The associate complied with the demands and put about $30,000 worth of jewelry in the plastic bag, police said.

Detectives said they received multiple tips from the public after the incident, which led to Herrera's arrest.
