2 Miami police officers injured in collision with Camaro

Officers taken to hospital in serious condition

MIAMI – Two Miami police officers were injured Thursday night when their patrol car collided with a white Chevrolet Camaro.

The collision happened near Northwest Sixth Street and Northwest First Avenue.

Police said the Camaro struck a tree after the collision, while the police cruiser ended up a few feet away in a construction site.

The officers were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released early Friday morning.

One of the four people in the Camaro was taken to the hospital. The other passengers had some minor scrapes and bruises.

It was not immediately known if the officers were on their way to a call at the time of the collision.

"We're just happy that no one's life was taken," Miami police Lt. Freddie Cruz said.

An update on the status of the four people in the Camaro was not immediately known.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
