5 hospitalized after crash involving Miami-Dade County bus

3 passengers; 2 drivers injured

MIAMI – Five people were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a crash involving a Miami-Dade County bus.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash about 8 a.m. at Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest 46th Street.

Surveillance video from a home in the area shows the bus that was carrying six people heading east on 46th Street.

A white Ford Explorer was stopped at Northwest 18th Avenue and the driver attempts to make a left onto 46th Street. It appears that another vehicle blocked his view,  and the 18 year old took the turn, and got hit by the bus.

The impact carried the two vehicles into a neighbor's yard, plowing right over a fence and slamming into a white Honda Accord.

According to the Miami Department of Fire-Rescue, three of the injured were passengers on the Miami-Dade Transit bus.

The drivers of the bus and a Ford Explorer were also hospitalized. Their conditions have not been released.

"A lot of times people just don't use good common sense or they're being distracted and not paying attention to the fact that there's a stop sign there. And when you come to an intersection sometimes they may believe that they have the right away when they really don't," Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll Jr. said.

The crash is under investigation and authorities have not said which driver was at fault.
