Vintage Louis Vuitton purses stolen at Sawgrass Mills mall

4 people believed to have stolen more than $17,000 worth of purses

SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise police are searching for four people who they believe stole thousands of dollars' worth of vintage Louis Vuitton purses from a kiosk at Sawgrass Mills mall.

The theft was reported March 28 by a sales associate who told police that the kiosk she works at was burglarized overnight.

According to an incident report, surveillance video shows two men and two women approach the kiosk two hours after the mall had closed and load 32 purses into a shopping cart.

Detectives said it appeared that three of the people acted as lookouts while one of the men spent about 25 minutes removing the items from a glass display.

The group was then seen leaving the mall through the "Fashion Row" exit and loading the purses into what appeared to be a gray Volkswagen Passat.

The kiosk employee told detectives that the purses were valued at a total of $17,213.

Police said she was unable to provide serial numbers for the purses, but provided detectives with an itemized list of the purses that were stolen.

Joseph Sammut, who is the district manager of LXR & Co., which sells vintage luxury accessories, said the company has taken added measures to ensure that this doesn't happen again.

"Since then we have an upgraded alarm system (and) double locked cases. These people aren't going to hit us again," Sammut said.

Anyone with information about the identities of the thieves is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
