Police said Ezrati asked to see if the phone worked with his SIM card.

After one of the victims handed over the phone, Ezrati put his SIM card in and then pulled out a handgun, the report said.

Police said Ezrati said "sorry" and ran south toward Taft Street to get to his car.

Detectives said the victims ran after Ezrati and saw him drop the phone on Johnson Street, so they grabbed it. Police said he also dropped the gun on University Drive.

Police said the victims positively identified Ezrati as the person who robbed them at gunpoint and said they wanted to prosecute.

According to the report, Ezrati is on probation for possession of cannabis over 20 grams.

He now faces charges of aggravated assault with the intent to commit a felony, armed robbery, tampering with evidence and violating his probation.
