Redland Middle School fight sends student to hospital

Police say boy body slammed during fight

HOMESTEAD, Fla. ā€“ A fight at a Homestead middle school Thursday afternoon sent a student to a hospital.

The fight was reported at Redland Middle School on Southwest 248th Street.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez-Diego told Local 10 News that two students got into a fight after lunch. She said one of them suffered a head injury and had to be airlifted to a South Florida hospital.

School police said a boy body slammed another boy to the ground.

According to students who spoke to Local 10 News reporter Terrell Forney, the two are friends and were just laughing and playing together Wednesday.

Students said for some reason, one of the boys ran up behind the other student in a second-floor hallway Thursday and slammed him head first to the ground.

The victim suffered a seizure and began foaming at the mouth, students said.

They said blood was coming out, and faculty at the school tried to keep the boy's eyes open in an attempt to keep him from passing out.

Students said the boy who was the aggressor ran off after the incident. It's unclear what type of punishment he will be facing by school officials and police.
