POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A man was arrested on a second-degree arson charge Sunday on allegations that he set a dumpster on fire in the parking lot of a Miami Subs Grill in Pompano Beach.

According to an arrest report, Michael Somers, 49, lit a paper on fire and threw it inside the restaurant’s dumpster at 750 W. Sample Road.

Broward sheriff’s deputies said Somers also lit a piece of cardboard on fire and threw it into the dumpster.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, which severely damaged the dumpster, authorities said.

The dumpster is located just 25 feet away from the drive-thru, where several cars were waiting in line.

No vehicles were damaged by the fire.
