Boy donates piggy bank to vandalized mosque

7-year-old Jack Swanson gave all his savings to Texas-area mosque

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas – A young boy donated all the savings in his piggy bank to a local mosque that had been damaged by vandals following the attacks in Paris.

Jack Swanson, 7, made his decision after he saw that the Islamic Center of Pflugerville, Texas outside of Dallas had been vandalized.

According to KXAN, feces was found in front of the mosque along with torn pages from the Quran.

After a conversation with his mother about why everybody's churches are important, Jack asked if he could donate all his savings, $20, to the mosque to help clean up the mess.

A board member at the center was overwhelmed by Swanson's charity.

"It's 20 bucks, but coming from Jack collecting his pennies it's worth 20 million bucks to me and to our community," Faisal Naeem told KXAN.

Local police said they were investigating the incident as a hate crime.

As far as Jack's family, his mother, Laura, said she couldn't be more proud.

"I think it's really good to get kids involved and to let them know what the important stuff really is."
