Chalmers has been made available since the Heat signed Goran Dragic to a long-term contract this summer, according to Stein.
Chalmers, 29, was taken in the second round of the 2008 draft.
He was the point guard on the Heat's 2012 and 2013 championship teams.
Chalmers is making 4.3 million dollars this season.
The Heat have depth at guard with Tyler Johnson and 2nd round pick Josh Richardson.
