MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man killed in a hit-and-run crash early Tuesday in Miami Beach has been identified as Andrew Hamilton, 27, who was a tourist visiting from the U.K.

Police said a man driving a silver BMW sped past a police office on Collins Avenue near 15th Street about 2:30 a.m. When the officer went to investigate, he found Hamilton dead in the street near Collins Avenue at 11th Street.

"He was traveling southbound from about 15th Street at a very high rate of speed, which resulted in this tragedy," Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said.

Police questioned three women who were in the car, but said the driver ditched the car and ran off.

Anyone with information about the identity of the driver is asked to call Miami Beach police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
