MIAMI – A woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a personal watercraft Monday afternoon on Pace Picnic Island.
Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said a fireboat arrived at the island just before 2:30 p.m. off 20th Terrace and North Bayshore Drive.
Carroll said a 41-year-old woman had been struck by the watercraft while sitting on the beach.
According to witnesses, a man who was driving the watercraft appeared to lose control before it ended up on the beach. The driver was also evaluated by paramedics but refused treatment.
The woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
