Mother, daughter accused of shoplifting at Sunrise Walmart

Son arrested after assaulting loss prevention officer, police say

SUNRISE, Fla. – A woman and her two grown children were arrested Monday on charges of shoplifting and getting into a physical altercation with a loss prevention officer, police said.

The incident was reported at a Walmart at 12555 W. Sunrise Blvd.

Jeannette Hampton, 59, and her daughter Katie Hampton, 20, were arrested on a charge of robbery by sudden snatching.

Jeannette Hampton's son, Sean Hampton, 27, who police do not believe was involved in the shoplifting, was arrested on a battery charge.

According to an arrest report, the mother and daughter were captured on surveillance video placing nearly $50 worth of items into a pink bag.

Police said Jeannette and Katie Hampton walked out of the store, where they were met by loss prevention officer Rushane Clarke, who attempted to bring the women back into the store.

Police said the women struck and shoved Clarke to try to get away. Police said Sean Hampton also shoved Clarke.

According to the report, the mother and daughter ran to a nearby mall parking lot but were apprehended by police officers.

Just over $12 worth of merchandise was recovered in the suspects' pink bag. Police said the rest of the items were found in nearby bushes.

The family members were arrested and taken to the Broward County Jail.

Jeannette and Katie Hampton are being held in jail on a $5,000 bond. Sean Hampton is being held on a $2,500 bond.
