DAVIE, Fla. – A woman's car was impaled by a tree limb after a crash Thursday morning on Interstate 75.
According to the Florida Highway, Francis Clemenza, 28, of Weston, was driving south on I-75 when she lost control of her car and drove off the highway just south of Griffin Road.
Her uncle, Giacomo Di Campo, told Local 10 News that Clemenza was trying to avoid an accident when she careened off the highway.
Sky 10 was above the crash scene as a large branch could be seen protruding through the driver's side windshield of the Honda Civic.
The branch entered through the rear passenger side window and went through the front windshield, narrowly missing the woman's head.
Di Campo said his niece was hit on the head and broke her arm, shoulder and collarbone in the crash.
Davie Fire Rescue Department Battalion Chief Robert DiFerdinando said another 2 inches to the right and the branch would have gone through the back of her head.
DiFerdinando said she didn't want rescuers to cut her hair because she was getting married soon, but they had to do it to free her.
Nearby were bundles of branches resting on the shoulder as part of the I-75 express lane construction.
Clemenza was taken by ambulance to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. She is expected to survive.
Troopers said Clemenza will not be cited.
