MIAMI – Marijuana was the more common substance reported in South Florida schools during the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school years, Florida Department of Education records show.
The trend applied to almost all of the schools in South Florida that reported having the most drug related incident reports during both school years. Cases of marijuana smoking exceed the cases of tobacco smoking.

Although several studies show that marijuana use among teenagers has remained stable over the past few years, the attitude toward the risks appears to be changing.
The percentage of youth perceiving marijuana as harmful went down during 2014, a recent National Institute on Drug Abuse survey reports.
About 6 percent of 12th graders reported daily use of marijuana during 2014 and 2013. And 81 percent of teens said they had easy access to marijuana, according to the survey.
The reports did not differentiate between synthetic marijuana, marijuana oils and other related products that are growing in popularity among teens. And specifics on the use of e-cigarettes were also not included on the tobacco reports.
A Local 10 News investigation on teenagers' social media posts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook in Hialeah and North Miami showed the same trend.
