"After-school and summer programs are essential to helping thousands of children succeed in school and provide critical support to working parents," said Charles Auslander, president and CEO of the Children's Trust. "In low-income neighborhoods, these programs are particularly important because of the academic help and safe environment they provide, in addition to the mentoring of caring, qualified staff."

Among the largest recommended awards include the following agencies:
--The ARC of South Florida, $1,900,000 annually
--Gang Alternatives, $1,112,799 annually
--Hope for Miami, $1,070,305 annually

All recurring funding at awarded amounts are subject to annual program performance reviews and consistent incoming revenues, the org said.
